Release 0.2.7

This release features OpenJDK Swing/AWT, VESA support, frame buffer console, new shell command framework, configure tool and Samba file system.

Files:

  1. jnode-x86-0.2.7.iso.gz, gzip compressed ISO image.
    Uncompress it to burn a CD-ROM with or to use in VMWare.
  2. jnode-src-0.2.7.tar.gz, all sources.
  3. jnode-x86-0.2.7.iso.vmx, this vmx file can be directly used with free vmware-player, for easy testing JNode
  4. vmdk-jnode-0.2.7.tar.gz, this package contains two vmdk disc images to use in JNode. It features a fat32 and an ext2 partition, each 4GB in size

Not Windows Friendly

gzip and tar are not very friendly for Windows users
I still haven't figured out how to use the disk images and I would be considered a power user

How about just using zip?

To answer your question, gzip + tar give much better compression and are free from patented algorithms. And as you can see, they are freely and widely available for Windows, and just about any other modern platform.

If they distributed gzip and tar to Windows folks in tar + gzip format, they wouldn't be able to use them.

I had a look at your sites but unfortunately my spanish (I assume you're spanish or maybe a language of the same family) is a bit rusty so I hardly understand it.

Is that about online desktop (with office applications actually installed on the server) and about grid computing ? What's exactly VOS ? is that the online desktop ? It would be great if you have some english (or french Smiling site speaking about all that.

Regarding your question about JNode, have you tried the 'startawt' command ? If your video card is not supported, there is chance that choosing the 'VESA' grub menu at boot time will allow you to start the graphic mode (still with the startawt command).
